Job Title: Systems Migration Engineer -14 yrs Exp

Location: Austin TX - Hybrid

We are currently seeking candidates who meet the following qualification

• Perform detailed assessments of legacy systems including Windows Server 2012 and older and RHEL 5/6/7 environments
• Identify and prioritize migration efforts based on system criticality security vulnerabilities and business impact
• Develop comprehensive migration strategies including upgrade paths timelines and risk mitigation plans
• Execute migrations from legacy operating systems to modern platforms such as RHEL 8/9 and Windows Server 2019/2022
• Perform system reinstallation as the preferred migration approach following best practices to minimize downtime and ensure compatibility
• Implement and manage data backup and recovery strategies throughout all phases of migration
• Conduct post-upgrade validation including performance testing application compatibility and system/service verification
• Reconfigure system services including networking storage and security settings after OS upgrades
• Utilize configuration management tools such as Ansible (Linux) and PowerShell (Windows) to standardize environments
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for system administration and migration-related tasks
• Perform system hardening activities for both Linux and Windows platforms in alignment with security best practices
• Apply patches and updates to bring legacy systems to current compliance and security standards
• Conduct vulnerability scans and remediate identified risks during and after migration
• Ensure compliance with industry standards such as CIS Benchmarks and NIST guidelines
• Troubleshoot complex OS-level and application-level issues during and post-migration
• Provide ongoing support for upgraded systems ensuring stability performance and availability
• Act as escalation point for issues related to legacy and upgraded systems
• Maintain detailed documentation of migration activities configurations and issue resolutions
• Update system records in CMDB and ensure accurate tracking of infrastructure changes
• Provide regular status updates and reporting on migration progress risks and milestones
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including networking database and application teams
• Coordinate with vendors for legacy system support and specialized software dependencies
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and end-users regarding system changes and downtime
• Develop internal documentation runbooks and training materials for updated environments
• Ensure backup solutions are implemented and validated for both Linux and Windows systems
• Update and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity post-migration
• Conduct post-migration audits to verify system functionality security and compliance
• Identify opportunities for performance tuning and further optimization after migration
• Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server environments
• Strong experience with OS upgrades system migrations and infrastructure modernization
• Expertise in RHEL 5/6/7/8/9 and Windows Server 2012/2016/2019/2022
• Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and PowerShell
• Strong knowledge of system hardening patch management and vulnerability remediation
• Familiarity with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Experience working in complex large-scale enterprise IT environments
• Strong troubleshooting analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
