Located in Milwaukee Wisconsin the Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) is the largest blood-focused research institute in the United States. With over 30 basic translational and clinical investigators the institute is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and developing innovative therapies related to blood and blood disorders. VBRI is part of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Campus a rapidly growing clinical-translational research hub. VBRIs proximity to the Medical College of Wisconsin Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital facilitates seamless interdisciplinary collaborations. A range of exemplary core facilities support highly competitive the summer of 2024 construction of a new research building began doubling existing VBRI research space to enable the recruitment of 10-15 new faculty. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director Microscopy Core Laboratories assists researchers with experimental planning microscope operation and image acquisition across a range of imaging platforms and sample types. The Imaging Specialist provides user training ensures proper instrument use data analysisand contributes to the maintenance of microscopes. Works independently; has a strong background in fluorescence microscopy and familiarity with advanced imaging approaches such as confocal multiphoton or intravital microscopy.

Responsibilities
- Provide the expertise and resources needed to contribute significantly to research projects that require microscopic imaging.
- Provides direction and training in microscopic imaging techniques to Research Technologists and Trainees.
- Collaborates with VBRI Investigators to plan and execute experiments that involve microscopic imaging to accomplish their research goals.
- Operates calibrates and performs routine maintenance on specialized microscopic imaging equipment.
- Troubleshoots assays and customizes experimental tools to answer research questions.
- Stays current with information relative to various types of microscopic imaging instrumentation image analysis software and research techniques.
- Coordinates external and internal microscopic imaging resources necessary for completion of research plan.
- Generates clear and complete records of experimental work and communicates results at research meetings.
- Participates in publication and presentation of research.
- Adheres to BCW Biosafety NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) procedures and regulations.
- May prepare and/or authorize requisitions for ordering supplies and equipment.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
- Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements

Qualifications
Education
- PhD from an accredited college or university in science with experience in microscopy preferred
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in science with experience in microscopy required
- Bachelors Degree with 3 additional years experience (4 years overall) in microscopic imaging in lieu of required degree
Experience
- 1-3 years of microscopic imaging experience required
- 1-3 years Extensive experience in confocal and high resolution microscopy preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain the theoretical basis of the work performed involving microscopic imaging. required
- Ability to perform research procedures independently required
- Demonstrated ability in microscopic imaging techniques and knowledge of various microscope platfoms. required
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills required
- Strong detail orientation and analytical ability required
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively required
- Computer literate with an emphasis on analysis of images generated using microscopic imaging techniques required
- Familiarity with surgical techniques used for intravital imaging or other rodent procedures preferred preferred
Tools and Technology
- Confocal/multiphoton microscope fluorescence microscopes of various types required
