Reports To: Executive Director Nutrition Services

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. / Salaried exempt / 12M Year

Salary Schedule: This is a non-negotiated position. Compensation and benefits will be administered consistent with District policy. Technician salary schedule S26/91D starting at $81579.08 per year.

Position Purpose:

The Nutrition Services Dietitian will under the direction of the Executive Director of Nutrition Services be responsible for developing and coordinating special diets and menus providing nutrition education preparing reports related to state or federal programs and auditing schools.

Essential Job Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provides support and training to school staff to ensure planned menus are followed and meal requirements are consistently met.
  • Responsible for creating planning and designing the menu plans analyzing menus for meeting federal guidelines and the development of special diets. Maintains required federal records and participates in federal state and district audits by visiting school kitchens.
  • Post the menus using electronic software and Microsoft Office.
  • Communicates with families and district staff regarding special diets and menus.
  • Assists in recipe development tracking ingredients and collecting food labels.
  • Responsible for the training and coordination of the Early Childhood program.
  • Designs and implements nutrition education programs and presentations for students.

Additional Duties:Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of Registered Dietitian Dietitian or Bachelors Degree in Nutrition required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in food service management/supervisory experiencepreferred.
  • Bilingual language skills preferred.
  • Experience working in a K-12 education environment is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of job-related areas of food production laws guidelines and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills using applicable programs Word Excel Access & PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with strong attention to detail set priorities and meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal/customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with staff in diverse multicultural work environments.
  • The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with all staff students parents administrators and the community.

Equipment:

This position may require the ability to use a variety of office equipment including a computer and automated record-keeping software. This position may require the ability to use kitchen equipment including commercial blenders food processors mixers slicers can openers peelers knives scales and thermometers. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.

Travel:Local travel will be required.

Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in an office environment school buildings and warehouse settings.

Interrelations:

  • Contact with district personnel customers and vendors.
  • Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • For departments and/or schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a classified full-time exempt position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

The offer of employment is contingent upon:

  • Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses certificates and other requirements for your position (e.g. Paraprofessionals obtaining Highly Qualified status etc.) as identified.
  • A thorough background check which demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
