Our client is seeking an Advanced Operations Engineer to manage fully managed relational databases across on-premises mainframe and cloud environments. This role is central to the Cloud Migration Factory supporting services to copy migrate and replicate data to modern targets.

The Mission: You will drive continuous improvement by analyzing incident trends and operational metrics. Your focus is on eliminating recurring problems and managing the lifecycle of relational databases ensuring global data replication and migration services are robust and efficient.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Educational Background: A bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas can be advantageous.
• 10 years of experience in IT application or infrastructure operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in Agile working methods.

Essential Skills (Verified):

• Strong experience in IT Operations and production run management for mainframe and distributed systems.
• Proven DB2 for z/OS operations expertise including database administration monitoring and lifecycle activities.
• Knowledge of software administration and software lifecycle/deployment.
• Understanding of IT infrastructure components and their relationships including mainframe technologies
• (IMS).
• Incident management root cause analysis and problem investigation skills.
• Ability to manage release and change control for assigned applications and environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work under pressure and deliver quality results.
• Excellent documentation skills for run documentation job control language and operational procedures.
• Ability to collaborate with geographically distributed product stakeholders team leads and cross-functional teams on operational topics.
• Coding skills; REXX ISPF SQL PL1 COBOL JCL.

Advantageous Skills

• Familiarity with Incident-Problem management tools such as ITSM Suite or BMC Remedy.
• Knowledge of other databases including Oracle PostgreSQL NoSQL MongoDB/DocumentDB.
• Experience in IT service continuity management for business-critical processes.
• Knowledge of regulated business unit requirements (e.g. financial institutions).
• Familiarity with PRIME processes for operational and compliance requirements.
• Automation and scripting skills (e.g. REXX Python Bash) to support operational automation and runbook
• improvements.
• Knowledge of Confluence and Jira for documentation and ITSM workflows.
• Capacity planning and resource optimisation experience to mitigate operational risk.
• Experience with monitoring and improving operational quality across application lifecycles.
• Reference documents:
• Operational lifecycle release/change control and quality management excerpts.
• Basic Linux knowledge

Role & Responsibilities:

• Ensure operability and operational quality of assigned applications and database environments across their full lifecycle.
• Manage production run activities including job control language run documentation and data file management.
• Take end-to-end responsibility for IT infrastructure tasks from requirements elicitation to implementation and problem resolution.
• Lead incident investigations facilitate root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Control release and change management activities for the applications in your area of responsibility.
• Deploy control and manage infrastructure for deployment monitoring and test automation.
• Develop and maintain operational runbooks automation scripts and procedures to improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with Team Lead Product Owners stakeholders and cross-functional teams on operational and lifecycle topics.
• Monitor capacity and provide recommendations for capacity planning and resource optimisation.
• Ensure implementation of identified security measures and technical lifecycle management actions.
• Track and administer software licensing and related documentation for assigned systems.
• Analyse incident trends and operational metrics to drive continuous improvement and eliminate recurring problems.
