A leading OEM in the mining equipment industry is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team focused on underground mining machinery development.
This role offers the opportunity to work on technically advanced heavy-duty equipment taking ownership of designs from concept through to production and field support.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of underground mobile mining equipment and mechanical systems
- Create and optimise detailed 3D models assemblies and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools
- Perform FEA analysis and simulations to ensure performance reliability and safety
- Design and integrate hydraulic and mechanical systems for heavy equipment applications
- Ensure designs are optimised for manufacturability cost efficiency and durability
- Drive testing validation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support production commissioning and field troubleshooting when required
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team
Minimum Requirements
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- 510 years experience in mechanical design within mining heavy engineering or OEM environments
- Proven experience with underground mining equipment or similar heavy machinery
- Strong hydraulics knowledge and system integration experience
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks Inventor) and simulation tools (FEA)
- Solid understanding of welding machining and manufacturing processes
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Registered as a Candidate Engineer working towards Pr Eng registration
