Role Overview
This role is a senior leadership position in maritime insurance and operations responsible for managing end-to-end Protection & Indemnity (P&I) claims and vessel-related incidents.
You will act as the central coordinator during maritime incidents working closely with P&I Clubs legal entities authorities and vessel owners to ensure timely compliant and commercially effective resolutions.
In parallel you will lead a team of claims professionals drive operational excellence and contribute to business growth and stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Claims & Incident Management
- Oversee and manage P&I claims and maritime incidents (e.g. collision crew injury pollution cargo damage)
- Allocate and supervise cases ensuring timely and accurate resolution
- Provide technical analysis and recommendations to clients
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain relationships with P&I Clubs lawyers surveyors and authorities
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex cases
- Represent the organization in industry engagements and client interactions
Team Leadership
- Lead mentor and manage the claims handling team
- Drive performance training and development initiatives
- Ensure high levels of team productivity and service quality
Compliance & Risk Control
- Ensure adherence to P&I guidelines legal requirements and internal policies
- Monitor risk exposure debtor management and conflict of interest
- Maintain strong quality and audit standards
Business & Operational Contribution
- Identify and support new business opportunities
- Contribute to budgeting reporting and market analysis
- Support development of new service offerings (P&I / H&M / Medical cases)
Key Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 4-6 years in the shipping/maritime industry
- Hands-on experience in P&I claims marine operations or related functions
- Prior team management or supervisory experience
Qualifications
- Chartered Ship Broker qualification or Legal qualification in shipping
- Completion of P&I/IG training modules (preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge of marine law claims handling and regulations
- Excellent communication negotiation and stakeholder management
- Ability to operate in high-pressure time-sensitive environments
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based coordination and on-site incident handling
- Requires availability for emergency situations (24/7 on-call when needed)
