The Department of Education Studies at DePauw University invites applications for a one-year position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. Ph.D. (completed by August 2026) in Education Studies or a related field is preferred; ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered at the rank of Instructor. A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching are essential. The Education Studies Department specifically seeks candidates with an interdisciplinary background and a demonstrated record of teaching and scholarship that focuses on critical theories of development/psychology and/or Critical Disability Studies. The successful candidate will teach 6 courses per year: two sections of EDUC 222 Developmental Theories plus one upper- or lower-level elective based on their research interests each term. Funding is available for professional development.
Rooted in the belief that education is critical to social change and is not confined to formal schooling the Education Studies major and minor prepare students not for one narrow career track but a variety of meaningful the department students will encounter a range of perspectives on philosophy cultural studies global studies history sociology/anthropology political economy and curriculum studies. Our courses are designed to challenge and engage students to expand their conceptual horizons of what is possible. Students also have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in various educational settings from schools and nature parks to activist organizations and unions.
