Assistant Director of Human Resources

 

Scope of Position

The Assistant Director of Human Resources plays a pivotal role in supporting the HR departments strategic initiatives and daily operations. Reporting directly to the Group Director of Human Resources this position assists with overseeing key HR functions such as employee relations recruitment and onboarding performance management compliance training and benefits administration. The Assistant Director works closely with the HR Director and other leadership to implement policies and programs that align with organizational goals. The Assistant Director of HR serves as a key advisor to managers and staff member providing guidance on HR matters while promoting the organizations values enhancing employee engagement and ensuring compliance with labor laws.

 

Schedule Requirements

The operation is 24 hours a day 7 days a week inclusive of all holidays.  While the company will make every attempt to create a work and life balance all exempt team members may be required to work extended shifts and additional days based on business demands.  Working more than eight hours per day and more than five consecutive days as needed is an essential job function for all exempt roles.  Travel may be required and may include some overnight stays.  All exempt team members should be responsible in scheduling their time off.

Internal:  Human Resources staff all company employees

External: Employment and Recruiting Agencies Governmental Agencies (e.g. RI Department of Labor and Training) and our Benefit Brokerage Firm.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR strategies policies and programs aligned with company goals.
  • Contribute to the companys culture-building efforts promoting employee engagement and retention.
  • Manage HR staff and assist with day-to-day operations as needed.
  • Support talent development initiatives including training programs leadership development and succession planning.
  • Monitor and evaluate HR metrics and provide reports to Group HR Director for continuous improvement.
  • Assist in managing employee benefits programs including health insurance retirement plans and wellness initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Communicates noteworthy activities to the management team utilizing the prescribed communication methods.
  • Collaborate with department heads to address HR needs and improve workforce performance.
  • Assist with providing guidance and support on employee relations issues including conflict resolution disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
  • Maintain files on resource areas to include Workers Compensation
  • Assist with interviewing applicants for management positions and submitting recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of all employee files.
  • Assist with ensuring the execution and implementation of the performance reviews process
  • Conduct and document exit interviews with exiting employees
  • Conduct all necessary and requested audits on Human Resources functions
  • Complete and maintain current records on a competitive wage and benefit survey for all hotel
  • Represent the Company with a positive attitude and professional attire
  • Follow sustainability guidelines and practices related to Ocean Houses sustainability programs
  • Assist with integrating managing and promoting the OHMs Mission and Values ensuring they become a fundamental part of daily operations.
  • Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the role

 

Required Job Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth understanding of HR Management functions including employee relations performance management compensation benefits recruitment and compliance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local state and federal labor laws including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) FMLA ADA FLSA and other employment-related regulations
  • Familiarity with strategies for employee engagement workforce development and organizational culture improvement
  • Proficient in HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems) and other relevant software tools for tracking performance payroll and employee data
  • Expertise in resolving complex employee relations issues handling grievances and mediating disputes effectively
  • Knowledge of implementing and managing organizational change initiatives ensuring smooth transitions during periods of change
  • Proven experience in a leadership or management role within HR with at least 2-5 years of progressive HR experience
  • Experience in developing implementing and revising HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance and alignment with company goals
  • Compute accurate mathematical calculations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels management and external partners.
  • Uphold the Company standards policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest/employee information and pertinent hotel data

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree in HR Business Administration or a related field required or equivalent work experience.
  • SHRM or PHR Certification preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels management and external partners.
  • Ability to handle complex HR challenges think strategically and offer practical solutions.
  • Experience managing multiple HR projects simultaneously meeting deadlines and managing resources effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence to manage sensitive situations and maintain positive relationships with employees and leadership.
