The Communications Supervisor oversees the daily operation of Public Safetys Communications Center. This individual is responsible for implementing and enforcing policies and procedures in the Communications Center. The Communications Supervisor is also responsible for monitoring communication systems workstations video surveillance and channel alarms and reporting issues to the Information Technology Division.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Supervises and manages the Communication Center.
- Manages the testing of all Communications equipment.
- Works with the Public Safety Training Coordinator to ensure employee certifications and training are current and valid. Implements and enforces policies and procedures.
- Assists with investigations concerning the need for reports video and audio recordings.
- Creates and maintains the weekly and monthly Public Safety dashboard.
- Communicates important information to senior management.
- Completes Annual Evaluations for employees under their supervision.
- Responsible for making employment recommendations including hiring promoting and disciplinary actions.
- Performs additional duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral).
- Knowledge of Communication Systems.
- Knowledge of Public Safety components in security fire and medical.
- Experience with preparing reports using Microsoft Office.
- Ability to think critically and use logic and analysis to identify the potential enhancements for Communications.
- Ability to make decisions and resolve problems.
- Ability to use various tools including computers radios telephones fax machine printer copy machine and other electronic equipment.
- Ability to use various forms reports lists and directories.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships within the workplace.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
- Ability to organize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read write and speak English and to communicate effectively (both written and oral).
- Ability to stand talk listen and sit in one place for prolonged periods of time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience
Previous Law Enforcement/Public Safety communications management experience is preferred but not required. Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
Licenses Certificates or Other:
Must obtain the Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within four (4) months of employment and must maintain an active certification throughout employment.
Must have a Class D Security License or be able to obtain License within six (6) months of hire.
Any combination of the above education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties for the position will be considered.
