This role requires full time on site presence.

Your role:

This is a full-time 1 year temporary contract based in Halifax that requires on-site presence.

CBC Nova Scotia is looking for an experienced journalist to work alongside our morning assignment producer to co-ordinate a team of reporters that brings our audiences breaking news information and insight across CBC Nova Scotias various programs and platforms. The Late Assignment Producer leads the newsdesk for the Maritimes in the evenings. This role reports to CBC Nova Scotias executive producer.

Youll lead the late shift from 2:15pm to 11:00 pm with your primary responsibility responding to breaking news on weeknights.

As the assignment producer you will be an editorial leader and an experienced mentor someone who demonstrates sound editorial judgment who thrives as part of a team in the fast-paced high-pressure world of a multi-platform newsroom.

This role requires a multitude of skills: a deft hand at copyediting digital files ability to multi-task updating and maintaining an outlook videographer assignments and managing television resources for the station.

In this role you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met. There will be a regular and ongoing requirement to coordinate the work of others.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Minimum five years relevant experience in a multi-platform news environment.

  • University degree or equivalent.

  • Experience vetting editing fact-checking and packaging digital and video content.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills.

  • Superior editorial skills and judgment

  • Familiarity with CBCs journalistic standards and practices an asset.

  • Highly developed interpersonal problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Highly developed organizational skills; ability to multi-task and manage multiple demands and deadlines.

  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.

  • Strong team player

  • Experience with television production is an asset.
