The role
Working closely with our Creative Management Team this role requires you to have the ability to both conceptualize and lead design development through the ideation phase of the design and development of still and responsive graphics for multiple platforms. Your design ideas will adhere to and challenge our brand strategy to best engage our audience. You will be a collaborative team member within our Art Director and Graphic Design group bringing sophisticated techniques creative flair and professional experience to the group.
Work is performed according to accepted CBC or industry standards but there is wide latitude for independent action judgment and initiative. Duties are performed with minimal direction and in collaboration with a variety of partners internal and external to the CBC. There are often requirements to be self-administered with the expectation of producing desired results within guidelines.
This role requires knowledge of the latest design trends an understanding of research and metrics and the ability to evolve still creative into unique this role you will lead creative meetings and inspire teams in creative brainstorms and development for promotional content.
The Art Director is responsible for a variety of deliverables within a promotional campaign such as developing storyboards ideate campaign concepts execute final art collaborate or build motion graphics edit photos contribute to brainstorms and work from a multi-platform storytelling.
They are the decision maker responsible for the quality of the finished product.
Key Tasks
Direct and help to ensure our marketing campaigns are current on brand and in-line with the CBC message and image across all platforms and placements.
Work closely with the other members of the creative team to develop visual concepts and lead the overall creative design (and production of assets) for a variety of marketing and communications campaigns.
Leverages analytics/insights to better understand the audience what content performs and adjust the approach.
Advises other designers on graphics and/or branding requirements for CBC.
Responsible for the overall visual aspects of a campaign.
Ensure that our partners desired message is communicated to audiences.
Consults with other specialists involved throughout the production and post-production processes of the assignment to ensure continuity of creative concept including the optimum design and visual unity.
Interprets strategies to develop ideas and concepts. Creates visual elements reflecting those ideas as well as modifying adapting and improvising on existing elements within our CBC branding strategy.
Experiments and devises new methods or approaches to appeal to audiences.
Makes presentations and presents concepts conclusions and recommendations to CBC and external partners.
Sources imagery from CBC and/or stock photography being mindful of inclusivity when selecting imagery.
Daily involvement as an active member of the creative team throughout the design and production processes throughout the day to ensure continuity.
Experience sharing creative and directing output with vendors on complex ad units (such as cascading expanding tandem pushdown takeover floating etc.) Experience building these is welcomed.
Photoshoots - direction planning execution post-production needs.
Works within the established budget as required and controls the design costs monitoring deviations and taking corrective measures.
As assigned or required may perform any or all of the following tasks:
Research and implement new design solutions.
Assist in the training of others.
Offer feedback or support the campaign from a leadership perspective.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Requires a university degree or equivalent in Graphic Design Art Direction Computer Graphics or similar.
At least four years of similar experience in the Art direction of an organizations Marketing and Communications initiatives including demonstrated experience on projects or programs that required creative collaborative and innovative contributions.
Fluency in software including but not limited to Illustrator Photoshop InDesign Canva Sketch.
Ability to both conceptualize and build creative assets as requested for digital and print content.
Strong visual design skills with an emphasis on typography and layout.
Ability to visualize and present ideas in a timely manner.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet daily deadlines.
Strong communication skills.
Creative out of the box thinker.
Ability to adhere to the CBC Design brand.
Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Aware of new design trends and technology.
Demonstrated collaboration skills.
Willingness to be continually enhancing design skills and bring ideas to the team.
Able and willingness to work overtime and on weekends when required.
