DescriptionWest Island School (WIS) is looking for a Laboratory Technician IIon a full-time basis. This is a permanent full-time position to start from April 2026.
Role Summary
- To prepare laboratory lessons and cooperate with other technicians and laboratory assistants in order to make the practical running smooth and efficient
- This is a permanent full-time position with MPF benefits. (Mon - Fri workdays only with 39 hours a week work schedule and No Shifts)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain Health & Safety standard in the laboratory:
- Support LT if any in setting up major health & safety rules in the Laboratory
- Carry out First Aid role
- Manage the disposal of chemicals properly
- Provide risk assessment guidance for lessons
Keep purchase orders:
- Purchase and keep storage of apparatus equipment and other inventory (e.g. textbooks in laboratories)
- Oversee tenders requisition
- Order and track equipment
- Liaise with lab assistants for ongoing purchase of day to day materials.
- Carry out annual stocktaking
In class support:
- Help student during lessons
- Demonstrate experiments to students
- Help in development of practical resources for Key Stage students
- Support primary teachers in Science related activities.
- Interact with children & teachers
- Prepare and practice under guidance of Lab Tech I working closely with teaching team
ICT Support:
- Act as technology expert as tech II to support teachers
- ICT competence (e.g. data logging) compile spreadsheet records
- Setup networks whiteboard etc
Supervise LT III:
- Supervise technician IIIs in leveraging / delivery apparatus
- Prepare complex reagents and supervise Tech IIIs in preparing sample resources.
- Supervise Performance Management for other levels
- Provide in house training of Lab Tech IIIs
- Delegate appropriate tasks to lab tech III and lab attendant
Coordinate:
- Responsibilities for Lab Tech II in line with expectations for Lab Tech III providing critical support to HOD.
- Actively support team continuity by stepping in to cover duties during colleagues absences.
- Liaise with Head of subjects.
Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated in response to the schools operational needs
Reporting To:Head of Science Departments / Lab Technician I
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Have a Certificate/Diploma in Laboratory Technology from polytechnic / polytechnic university the Hong Kong Institute of
Vocational Education or technical college/technical institute or equivalent (including health & safety); and - Good Laboratory management and safety skills
- First-Aid Certificate preferred
Abilities & Knowledge:
- Fluent spoken and written English communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- A friendly manner in relation to staff and students is essential
- Ability to be flexible prioritize workload to work independently and use initiative
- Excellent PC skills especially with Excel
