The company deploys solar cold rooms solar freezers and solar-powered refrigerated vehicles to reduce post-harvest losses and enable reliable cold storage in off-grid and underserved communities.
Job Summary
The Electrical / Solar Engineer will design install and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and electrical infrastructure that power Eja-Ices cold chain solutions. The role will ensure reliable and efficient energy supply for cold rooms refrigeration systems and mobile cooling platforms particularly in off-grid environments.
Key Responsibilities
Solar System Design
- Design solar PV systems for cold rooms freezers and refrigeration units.
- Calculate system capacity based on refrigeration loads and energy consumption.
- Specify system components including solar panels inverters batteries and charge controllers.
Electrical Infrastructure
- Design electrical wiring systems for cold storage facilities.
- Integrate refrigeration equipment with solar power systems and backup power sources.
- Ensure safe and efficient power distribution across facilities.
Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise installation of solar PV systems and electrical components.
- Conduct system testing and commissioning.
- Ensure systems meet performance and safety standards.
System Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor system performance including:
- Solar generation
- Battery storage levels
- Energy consumption of refrigeration systems.
- Optimize system performance to improve energy efficiency and reliability.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair faults in solar systems and electrical components.
- Perform preventive maintenance on solar panels batteries and inverters.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and service documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Renewable Energy Engineering
- Power Engineering
- Professional certification (preferred):
- Registered engineer or equivalent professional body membership
Experience
- 35 years experience in:
- Solar PV system design and installation
- Off-grid or hybrid power systems
- Industrial electrical systems
Technical Skills
- Solar PV system design and sizing
- Electrical system design and load calculations
- Inverter and battery integration
- Knowledge of lithium-ion and deep-cycle battery systems
- Electrical safety and grounding systems
Tools and Software
- AutoCAD or electrical design software
- PV system design tools (e.g. PVsyst or similar)
- Energy monitoring systems
Preferred Experience
- Solar systems for cold storage or refrigeration loads
- Hybrid systems combining solar battery and grid power
- Experience with IoT or remote energy monitoring systems
Key Competencies
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work in remote or off-grid environments
- Strong documentation and reporting abilities
- Teamwork and field coordination skills
