Job Summary
School psychologists apply intervention and diagnostic expertise in mental health learning and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically socially behaviorally and emotionally.
Essential Duties
- Participates in the schools Mental Health Support Team in order to support social-emotional learning assess and improve school climate implement school-wide positive behavioral supports and provide crisis prevention and intervention services.
- Conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations as a part of the determination of a students eligibility for special education and related services and provides interpretation of results to stakeholders through eligibility meetings.
- Serves as eligibility chairperson for designated meetings. Complete all necessary documentation required for the eligibility meeting and ensure compliance with local state and federal requirements.
- Participates in student team meetings through child study eligibility IEP and Section 504 to interpret the multifactored evaluation data participate in decision-making concerning appropriate educational services or program placement and support compliance with local state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Monitors and completes all required assessments and report development within required timelines.
- Collect and interpret student and classroom data in order to assist teachers in the practice of managing classroom and student behavior.
- Assist teachers in modifying and adapting curriculum and instruction based on individual learner needs.
- Facilitates or conducts individual and/or small group counseling to promote positive behaviors and mental health.
- Plans and conducts relevant staff development programs for stakeholders. Enhance staff understanding and responsiveness to diverse students needs and encourage trauma-responsive practices.
- Assist in the planning of psychological services at the district building classroom and individual level.
- Attend departmental meetings and professional conferences to continually develop performance and engage in professional growth activities.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
Specialist or Doctorate-level training or state equivalency eligible for reciprocal licensure. Endorsement/licensure (or eligible for licensure) in school psychology through the Virginia Department of Education or eligible for reciprocal licensure from another state.
Special Requirements
Must hold a valid Virginia drivers license.
