Secondary students are provided work experience opportunity to observe and learn in a shadow capacity in an area of their interest. The student will learn about the day-to-day operations and expected behaviours of the workplace.
Secondary students can apply for up to five consecutive days of work experience during the school term and will be placed with a supervisor to complete tasks in an area of their interest.
What youll be doing:
We have opportunities in a number of services across Council including:
Our Early Years Centres
- A placement in one of our Early Years childcare centres will give you the opportunity to shadow and gain experience to the day in the life of an early childhood educator.
Leisure Centres
- A placement in one of our leisure centres will give you insights into what is it like to work in a leisure centre where no day is the same. You might shadow a gym instructor during appointments support the team with housekeeping across gym and group fitness areas shadow a swimming instructor and attend to tasks across the aquatics area or attend a group fitness class to see how classes are run.
Library Services
- A placement within one our library services will give you exposure to customer service as you shadow a staff member support with housekeeping including shelving and tidying of books and other items general administrative duties as well as supporting collection maintenance.
Venues Operations
- A placement within one of our venues operations team will give you exposure to customer service supporting the team with event booking setting up events and general customer service skills liaising with people who host events and event participants.
Student Requirements:
- Year 10 student
- At least 15 years of age at time of placement
- Seeking five consecutive days of work experience during the school term
- Placement hours of 9am 3pm
- Provide a signed Student Placement Agreement and agree to act in accordance with Councils Employee Code of Conduct while undertaking placement.
