Job Summary

Position Title: Career Development Officer
Department: Education & Training
Reports To: Manager Education and Training
Location: Inuvik Semmler Office
Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent

PURPOSE

The Career Development Officer works in partnership with Employment Officers to promote deliver and monitor career development opportunities for Participants of the Gwichin Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (GCLCA). The role operates in accordance with relevant policies program guidelines and directives while embedding Gwichin values such as Respect Honesty Our Stories Honor Laughter Kindness Sharing and Caring into program delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer all career development programs in alignment with Gwichin values.
  • Ensure programs meet GTC policies procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Contribute leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of education and training programs.
  • Support programs that respond to Participant needs and labor market demands.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with community organizations employers and funding agencies.
  • Ensure coordination of programs and alignment with common career development goals.
  • Maintain and update client databases with accurate personal training and education information.
  • Ensure records are managed securely and confidentially.
  • Provide career and employment counselling to Participants.
  • Assist with job search strategies resume writing interview preparation and employment planning.
  • Deliver person-centered inclusive and trauma-informed guidance.
  • Inform Participants of available education and training programs employment opportunities and potential funding sources.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College Diploma in Career Development Education or Social Science.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in career development program administration or a related field.
  • Equivalencies (combinations of education and experience) will be considered.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Teams OneNote) email database applications and internet research.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Knowledge of Gwichin values community priorities and local labor market an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally relevant services to Participants.
