Job Summary

JOB GOAL:

To provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in the general education setting through inclusion services. The teacher will collaborate with general education teachers to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) support academic and behavioral development and collect data to monitor student progress in the areas of academics behavior and social skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is a Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days) plus a benefits package.

NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSDs salary placement guidelines.

FLSA: EXEMPT

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Current Arkansas certification in Special Education.

  • Evidence of successful experience working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.

  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers specialists and support staff.

  • Knowledge and experience implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and providing accommodations and modifications.

  • Experience implementing positive behavioral supports and social skills instruction.

  • Evidence of strong organizational documentation and communication skills.

  • Ability to collect and analyze student progress monitoring data.

  • Evidence of a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive educational practices.

  • Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  • Collaborates with general education teachers to plan and deliver instruction in an inclusive classroom setting.

  • Implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) including accommodations modifications and specialized instruction.

  • Provides small-group and individualized support to students within the general education classroom.

  • Collects and maintains data on student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.

  • Supports students in developing academic behavioral and social-emotional skills.

  • Participates in IEP meetings multidisciplinary team meetings and parent conferences as required.

  • Assists in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans and positive behavioral supports.

  • Collaborates with related service providers (speech therapists occupational therapists etc.) to ensure coordinated support for students.

  • Serves as a member of the schools instructional and educational support team.

  • Performs other duties as the principal/supervisor may from time to time assign.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds or more.

This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information.

The employee must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and be physically present at the assigned work site with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year.

Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
