Job Description Summary
The Senior Metrologist is responsible for managing a UKAS-accredited laboratory in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
This role involves overseeing the recall system for test equipment drafting and maintaining calibration procedures and ensuring the calibration of onsite test equipment.
The Senior Metrologist will also drive continuous improvement initiatives within the metrology function and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of the UKAS-accredited laboratory in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards ensuring all laboratory processes are documented reviewed and updated as necessary.
- Conduct internal audits and prepare for external UKAS assessments.
- Oversee the recall system for test equipment and calibration standards ensuring timely recall and recalibration of equipment.
- Draft review and maintain calibration procedures for onsite test equipment.
- Ensuring procedures are aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Train staff on calibration procedures and best practices.
- Take full responsibility for the calibration of onsite test equipment.
- Schedule and perform calibrations document results and maintain calibration records.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or issues arising from calibration activities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the metrology function.
- Implement changes to enhance efficiency accuracy and compliance.
- Stay abreast of advancements in metrology and calibration technologies.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to understand their calibration and testing needs.
- Provide expert advice on metrology-related matters.
Qualifications and Skills:
- HNC or equivalent qualification
- Experience with ISO 17025 or other relevant standards
- Proficient in using calibration software and laboratory information management systems
- Ability to problem solve find solutions with minimum support and supervision
- Ability to innovate evolve and enhance processes
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Software packages (Word Excel PowerPoint etc.)
- Proven ability to work to deadlines and respond effectively to demanding customer requests
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills
- Self-starter energizing results orientated and able to multi-task
