Research Assistant I/II (holding the functional title of Farming Officer) in the Centre for Civil Society and Governance (Ref.: 534720) (to commence as soon as possible for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)
Applicants should hold a Bachelors degree or higher in Agricultural Science Biological Science Geography or a related discipline. Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese is required along with strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently and in a team. Priority will be given to those with at least 1 year of relevant work and management experience in agriculture horticulture or arboriculture.
The appointee will work on an Experimental Farm at Lai Chi Wo and Mui Tzs Lam Village to conduct and coordinate farming production and trials ( as well as undertaking other duties assigned by the Center Director. He/She will be mainly responsible for leading and conducting crop production and experiments together with a farming team recording and processing the production diary and other desktop tasks and preparing farm budgets and reports enforcing occupational safety instructions and regulations. He/she will be managing a team of experienced farmers and also apprentices.
For applicants with research experiences or interests he/she will also be given opportunities to improve farming methods co-develop production trials and make a bigger impact on Hong Kongs local food system and enhance the ecosystem services of Lai Chi Wo and Mui Tzs Lam together with a group of HKU-trained ecologists and botanists.
