About the 12-Month Internship Program
Full-time 12-month internships with stipends are offered for recent college graduates interested in pursuing a museum career. The focused departmental training is integrated with the fall spring and summer lecture series and complemented with financial provisions for the interns to create a research trip related to their field of interest. Additionally monthly activities are designed specifically for this cohort to receive greater exposure to the museum and art fields.
The Directors Office Intern will be a part of a larger cohort of interns from various MoMA departments. Twelve-month internships provide training in specific museum fields through close work with professional staff members familiarity with modern and contemporary art through seminars and discussions and an educational program that exposes interns to the workings of the Museum as a whole while considering the role of museums in the broader cultural context.
More about the Office of The Director
The 12-Month Intern in the Office of the Director assists with administrative duties and provides support to the Department Manager and Chief of Staff. This intern must have strong interpersonal skills and writing skills and must be comfortable working in a forward facing and fast paced office. The intern will be responsible for the opening and sorting of all incoming mail specifically the internal distribution and acknowledgement all of loan requests. Our intern assists with a number of special projects does extensive work filing and drafting reply correspondence. The intern should conclude the program with a thorough understanding of the many different types of work that happen within a museum from curatorial to administration to learning & engagement and digital products.
The ideal candidate should be confident organized articulate calm under pressure a team player and professional in their interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and the ability to perform basic functions in Excel is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills attention to detail ability to prioritize tasks a confident telephone manner and a high level of discretion are critical. Must be detail-oriented conscientious and have the ability to multitask. Must be able to greet external guests and exchange in friendly dialogue and generally act as the face of the Directors Office.
Required Commitment
This program will run from approximately September 14 2026 to August 27 2027. This program requires a full-time commitment (Monday-Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm).
Eligibility
Recent graduates of bachelors or masters degree programs. The Museum encourages candidates from all academic disciplines to apply.
Salary
$42000 salary (gross) subject to applicable tax withholdings. Health benefits two weeks paid vacation and an additional $2000 to cover travel expenses for an approved research trip related to the interns field of interest.
