Job Goal(s):

The primary job of the Culinary Arts Program Assistant position isto support our 11th and 12th-grade students in a fast-paced professional instruction-kitchen environment. This role includes instructional support kitchen management and event coordination.

The position works in collaboration with the Lead Instructor to ensure that students master essential industry skills while maintaining a safe sanitized and professional learning addition the culinary program assistant plays a key role in our on-site catering operations helping students transition from the classroom to real-world service.

Qualifications:

Education:

• High School Diploma required
• Associates Degree or equivalent creditpreferred

Certifications:

Required or ability to obtain within the 90 day probationary period:

• ServSafe Manager
• Servsafe Allergens

Work Experience:

Previous experience in the food service industry preferred

Experience working in both the back-of-the-house and front-of-the-house positions is preferred

Skills:

• Basic technical literacy in Google and Microsoft Suite and Powerschool
• Inventory management
• Food cost audit/analysis
• Fundamental culinary techniques and volume production
• Basic knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment
• Safety and sanitation procedures
• Event coordination and logistics
• Instructional techniques interventions and ability to demonstrate
• Effective supervisory skills especially of large groups of teenagers

Essential Job Functions:

1. Assist the Lead Instructor with daily instruction and production needs involving both the back-of-the-house/front-of-the-house operations.
2. Assist with the planning coordination and implementation of catered events VBT Food Truck and Main Street Café.
3. Interact appropriately and professionally with students and staff adhering to VBISD and Van Buren Tech policies.
4. Possess knowledge of food production processes and be able to demonstrate culinary skills for students in the Main Street Café VBT Food Truck & the Culinary Arts & Catering Management Program.
5. Assist in the planning of menus and deliveries of consumable and non-consumable supplies.
6. Assist with inventory ordering and billing of consumable and non-consumable supplies.
7. Supervise students throughout the school day in both the instructional classroom and kitchen lab spaces including the Main Street Cafe and VBT Food Truck.
8. Assist and follow Standard Operating Procedures for cleaning and sanitizing temperature controls & overall food safety by maintaining logs and cleaning schedules.
9. Assist with the setup and teardown for special events/catering needs involving both the Culinary Arts & Catering Management program Main Street Cafe and VBT Food Truck.
10. May involve opportunities to work outside normal school hours for morning set-ups or night banquets.
11. Assist with the organization inventory and maintenance needs of instructional supplies and equipment.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by VBT administration.
13. Valid drivers license required.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
