Duties & Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development
- Coach ELA teachers across grades 5-12 through classroom observations practice clinics professional development sessions and Power Meetings to strengthen lesson execution and student outcomes
- Model exemplary ELA instruction and teach key grade spans or content areas in schools as needed
- Build systems for ongoing observation feedback and follow-up with teachers and leaders to track progress and adjust support
- Design facilitate and lead professional development practice clinics and Power Meetings that develop teacher capacity
Curriculum Implementation & Resource Creation
- Use your content expertise to support schools with implementing and adapting 5-12 ELA curricula developed by Uncommon Schools
- Create accessible resources that connect assessment and instructionincluding scripted lesson plans and assessment toolsto help teachers and leaders internalize and apply best practices
- Work with schools to leverage instructional blocks strategically and align them with individual teacher strengths
Data Analysis & Action Planning
- Analyze student achievement data across a portfolio of schools to identify trends gaps and opportunities
- Track progress on key power standards and create targeted action plans that accelerate student learning
- Partner with Regional Instructional Support Leaders (RISLs) and the Teaching & Learning team to make data-driven programmatic decisions and adjust strategies based on results
Collaboration & Program Support
- Partner with members of the broader K-12 Teaching & Learning team school leadership and RISLs on projects and initiatives
- Support additional tasks and projects as needed to advance our teaching and learning mission
Qualifications :
Required Experience
- 34 years of professional experience driving and coaching student achievement in a grade span department or team of teachers
- 34 years of directly relevant experience in teaching school leadership content coaching or curriculum development (e.g. teacher Dean of Curriculum and Instruction Principal or similar role)
- Proven ability to analyze student data and create action plans that directly lead to improved outcomes
- Demonstrated excellence in engagement communication and presentation skills
Key Skills & Qualities
- Strong commitment to Uncommon Schools mission and education philosophy
- Exceptional project management skills including attention to detail ability to balance big-picture strategy with actionable steps and capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines

- Comfort with travel outside your home region approximately once per month
Education
- Bachelors degree required
- Masters degree preferred
Physical Requirements
- Minimal physical demands; primarily desk-based work with extended periods of sitting
- Ability to travel to schools for on-the-ground coaching and support (minimum 3 days per week in schools)
