Overview:
The Medical Support Technician plays a major role in the process of completing and address prescriptions prior authorization requests received via telephone electronically and fax.
Responsibilities:
- Assist healthcare providers and patients in obtaining prescription requiring prior authorization.
- Process prior authorizations for specific medications and follow-up and relay the necessary information to both pharmacy and the patient.
- Call in medication renewal authorizations as ordered by the medical providers and document the appropriate information in the patients medical record.
- Serve as a liaison between the patients pharmacy and medical providers.
- Initiates implements and inform patients of prior authorizations needs regarding medication coverage.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance standards.
- Other duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy program.
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician from one of the following certification boards:
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board;
- National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCAA);
- Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT)
- Clerical and basic computer skills required.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and able to stand for long periods of time.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
