Job Summary

SUMMARY:

The Manager Car Hire Revenue and Rates is responsible for the accounting recording and reconciliation of car hire revenue; managing relationships with thirdâparty car owners; and researching and analyzing rates to optimize car hire performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Allocate cash received to correct accounts
  • Provide car hire revenue reports and deposits to our 3 party processor
  • Collections of outstanding car hire revenue
  • Issue receivable claims and maintain database
  • Submit taxes on GWIX fleet
  • Manages relationships and agreements with third-party car owners
  • Provide net revenue reports to car owners by the 12 of each month
  • Work with AP and accounting to ensure the timely payment to third-party car owners
  • Create invoices in the ERP system and issue to car owners
  • Work with car repair billing provider to include car repair expense information to car owners
  • Analyze car rates; excellent analytical skills required.
  • Work with Marketing/Operations to determine market rates and assist with pricing efforts
  • Communicate with Class I shortline and car owner partners via phone and email on railcar rates; strong negotiation skills required.
  • Accept reject and/or negotiate railcar rate offers on a timely basis.
  • Communicate with the car hire specialists on changes to rates.
  • Work with the Manager Fleet Analysis for updates on our owned and leased railcars.
  • Assist Director Car Hire with projects as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including strong software/spreadsheet skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet monthly deadlines along with deadlines posed by negotiating partners (Inability to prioritize and meet deadlines will not be tolerated as they pose risk of arbitration).
  • Effective decision making
  • Ability to work independently while still communicating with internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize large amounts of data and proactively make suggestions to upper management.

  • Bachelors degree in related field or at least three years of experience in transportation rail operations or data analysis and negotiation.
