Overview
Location: The Right Place Early Learning Center (Hartford CT)
FLSA Status: Full-Time Temporary (June August 2026)
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8.5 hours per day (includes one 30-minute unpaid meal break per day)
Scope of Position: To assist in planning and implementing a stimulating program of activities that contribute to the physical emotional social and cognitive needs of children ages 5 to 12.
Responsibilities
- Work with other instructors to plan and implement age-appropriate experiences and opportunities for enrichment activities that address both individual and group needs among children.
- Ensure all children receive enriching educational programming focusing on positive experiences and child outcomes.
- Create a positive and encouraging diversity climate for ideas questions and learning.
- Assist with all paperwork that may arise in the classroom including but not limited to attendance nutrition lesson plans daily health checks fire drill records narratives and daily notes.
- Monitor and maintain the classroom environment including cleanliness organization and health and safety.
- Actively participate in all required meetings including but not limited to orientation team meetings parent groups and training sessions. This includes contributing to agency cohesiveness by maintaining collaborative and team-oriented relationships.
- Observe and record physical and behavioral observations of children daily and assist with progress reports and goals.
- Assist in classroom management and be comfortable leading groups in activities that include experimenting with DIY electronics or STEAM experiences integrating literacy and addressing issues of summer learning loss.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate program needs.
- Accompany children on field trips and educational outings in the community. Monitor and maintain the environment including health and safety components.
- Maintain appropriate business attire manners and environment reflective of professional standards.
- Responsible for understanding personnel policies and procedures outlined in the staff and agency handbooks including mandated reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must develop a positive relationship and communicate effectively with school-age children and their families including supporting and encouraging parent engagement.
- Must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent.
- Must have prior experience working with children and their families.
- Current certificate in CPR and First Aid preferred.
- Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
