Classification: Part-time seasonal work that is grant-funded.

Job Goal(s):
The primary goal of the Resource Room Teacher isto ensure that there are individualized instructional programsfor each student in the designated group. This person specifies the method of instructionmaterials and classroom procedures to be followed. Implementation of appropriaterecordkeeping and input on program effectiveness are also the responsibility of the classroomteacher. This person is to work in conjunction with the support staff to ensure that theindividualized programming needs of the assigned students are being met in all identified areasto ensure maximum educational gain.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in education required
Certification:
Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education required
Work Experience:
Previous experience working with students on the Autistic Spectrum and other cognitive impairment is preferred
Skills:
- Possess appropriate instructional and behavior management skills
- Possess a working familiarity with:
-behavior modification
-language disorders
-the instruction of daily living/social skills
- Possess an ability to work well with other school staff to achievemaximum benefit for all students
- Possess skills to help develop the vocational and functional livingskills of young adults with ASD or cognitive impairment
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholdersin order to provide the best programs and services for students with ASD or other cognitive impairments
- Ability to learn and perform various medication and health-relatedactivities/treatments for students on the ASD spectrum and other cognitive impairments (under the direction of the school nurse)
Essential Job Functions:
- Participate in educational planning.
- Demonstrate effective instructional behaviors and techniques.
- Demonstrate effective behavior management with students.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management.
- Deliver programs toward meeting individual student needs.
- Demonstrate effective leadership and direction to classroom aide/tutor.
- Select and maintain instructional programs materials and supplies for the classroom.
- Effectively communicate consult and team with parents staff agencies and others.
- Effectively plan and organize for instruction.
- Maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Implement and maintain an effective recordkeeping system reflecting students program progress and other pertinent information.
- Coordinate services for students within their respective classroom.
- Research and utilize all available community resources and agencies (CMH MRS DRC etc) to the benefit of students present and future needs.
- Continually seek out opportunities to work with other staff and classrooms to provide a variety of learning opportunities for students.
- Effectively collect record and report data reflecting student progress on IEP goals.
- Continually strive to increase knowledge of the curriculum materials strategies and opportunities in education of severely multiply impaired students through professional development and active involvement in the learning community.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
- Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
- Regular and reliable in-person attendance
