Job Summary

Overview

The Program Coordinator Senior for Student Research Programs in the Office of Research will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and long-term planning and implementation of USUs nationally recognized central supports for student engagement in mentored research experiences at every level from entering freshman through PhD candidates. This professional staff member will show strong leadership communication and strategic planning skills and will serve as a public face for the office. Working alongside the AVPR as well as other program coordinators in the Office of Research they will help build relationships across the organization to support sustain and build the culture of student research already essential to USUs research DNA.

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Budget development and management; collaborate with Associate Vice President for Research (AVPR) and with Business Services on developing annual budget model and ensuring that funds are spent according to approved allocations
  • Liaison to external stakeholders including
    • U of U/Research on Capitol Hill
    • Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research (UCUR)
    • Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR)
    • Individual and corporate donors who support ongoing programming
  • Organize and co-lead Undergraduate Research Advisory Board
  • Internal point-of-contact and outreach for student research programs including regular communication and coordination with units including Honors Aggies First Scholars Admissions University Marketing and Communications Office of Research Web Team Libraries Advancement and Student Success
  • Coordinate the 7-week course USU 2110 Becoming a Researcher fall and spring semesters (help identify instructors and provide support to those implementing the course)
  • Financial and policy oversight of scholarship and grant programs that support student research including ensuring security and compliance of application processes
  • Organization of review panels for scholarships grants and awards; data analysis of reviewer outcomes reporting to AVPR on outcomes and maintaining data about outcomes.
  • Programming: designing and developing workshop series and trainings
  • Facilitating mentorship support (documentation of service trainings external opportunities and awards)
  • Providing strong leadership in strategic planning and program goal setting including identifying potential external funding opportunities and contributing to proposal development
  • Supervise Program Coordinator II position and 2-6 student employees including peer mentors
  • Oversees and contributes to annual report for Student Research Program

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree plus at least two years of work experience in a field that includes the analysis of complex systems and processes or an equivalent combination of education plus experience in higher education management
  • Professional level written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working directly with students and faculty in a university setting including understanding of relevant federal and state regulations governing student and employee data
  • Supervisory and team-leadership experience
  • Experience with budget creation management and fiscal responsibility
  • Ability to work productively with a variety of different demographic groups organizations and individuals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated competence in applications including project management software LMS financial applications and survey software
  • Experience with and understanding of USU platforms including Banner ServiceNow and Coursedog
  • Prior engagement with USU or other university student research programming
  • Trainings certificates or micro-credentials that will support successful performance of job duties described above (evidence of ongoing professional development)

The majority of the work takes place in an office or classroom/conference center environment protected from weather conditions or contaminants but not necessarily occasional temperature changes. However for events employee may work outdoors or and may not be protected from weather conditions. Employee would not be exposed to hazardous chemicals in the routine execution of their duties. Employees frequently sit for extended periods and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing). Bending and stooping and light lifting or pulling loads (as in when setting up for an event) are occasionally required. Employee will often listen hear and talk.
