Department Overview

Our customers are public safety agencies governments and military organizations who use our mission critical communications systems. The Security Update Service team part of the Motorola Solutions cybersecurity services organization protects mission-critical systems by ensuring security updates are verified tested and installed.


Job Description

As a Systems Software Engineer at Motorola Solutions you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and resilience of our mission-critical products. You will be responsible for certifying security updates across diverse platforms and building the automated infrastructure that delivers them. This role blends systems administration cybersecurity and DevOps to ensure our global customers remain protected against emerging threats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security Certification: Evaluate and certify security updates for use on Motorola Solutions Products ensuring compatibility and stability.

  • Automation Development: Design and implement clientless solutions to automate the delivery of patches and updates for Windows Linux VMware and other enterprise technologies.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal and external teams to resolve defects and streamline security processes.

  • System Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex system and network issues resulting from security updates or configuration changes.

  • Process Optimization: Analyze existing workflows and collaborate with other teams to drive efficiency through automation.

  • Reporting & Analytics: Provide detailed visibility into the health and status of running systems applications and update cycles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operating Systems: Hands-on experience with both Windows and Linux environments including troubleshooting and break-fix support.

  • Automation & DevOps: Proficiency with deployment/configuration tools (e.g. Ansible Jenkins) and experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines.

  • Infrastructure: High-level knowledge of AWS virtualization (VMware) and containerization.

  • Networking: Strong understanding of networking concepts including IP addressing ports protocols and network devices.

Programming & Tools

  • Scripting: Experience in one or more languages: C C C# Shell PowerShell Python Bash or .

  • Development: Proven experience in developing JavaScript applications.

  • Tools: Familiarity with version control (e.g. GitHub BitBucket) and project tracking systems like Jira.

Professional Skills

  • Organization: Must possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple update cycles and technical priorities.

  • Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and solutions to stakeholders at various levels.

Target Base Salary Range: $100000 - $125000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge skills and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
