Active Secret clearance is required due to nature of the work.
The Mechanical Engineering Group provides innovative design solutions for advanced technology prototypes. Example projects include laser communication high-energy lasers optical sensors biological agent detectors and large radar antennas for systems deployed on ground maritime air- and space-borne platforms. The group has expertise in precision engineering opto-mechanics mechanisms electronics packaging large structures highly efficient lightweight structures composite materials and additive manufacturing. The group is the Engineering Divisions center for 3D CAD design and data management and is involved in every step of program execution from conceptual design to system integration and test.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of a MIT LL Technical Project Manager to provide support for the mechanical design and testing of complex mechanical opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Responsibilities will include design integration and testing of complex hardware from conceptual design through fabrication and field performance evaluation.
- The candidate must be knowledgeable in a broad range of challenging problems involving structures mechanisms thermal systems optics and electronics.
- This position involves working in close-knit teams with design analysis and test personnel.
- Candidates must be enthusiastic innovative and motivated selfstarters able to work independently or as part of a group.
- They must possess strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to present status/results to internal and external audiences.
Required Skills:
- Experience in mechanical design assembly and environmental testing of high reliability electronic electro-optic mechanisms or opto-mechanical systems for DoD or aerospace applications.
- Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated experience with the development of opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems utilized on spacecraft and/or aircraft strongly preferred.
- Experience in DoD military and/or aerospace applications highly preferred
- Opto-Mechanical experience would be highly preferred.
Education and Experience Requirement:
Bachelors degree is mandatory. Candidates should have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering OR Aerospace. A Masters degree is a plus (there is some flexibility on the years of experience if the candidate has a Masters). Masters and 3 years relevant experience or Bachelors and 5 years relevant experience.
