Job Summary

Subject to formal establishment a vacancy may arise for a Wing Commander (Any Profession) to serve as SO1 Air Show Event Organiser (EO) at RAF Cosford on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 28 September 2026 (or earlier/later subject to formal establishment and candidate status).

The RAF Cosford Air Show has a long tradition of entertaining thousands of families each year and is now the last RAF-organised air show. As one of the largest outdoor events in the West Midlands the Show brings together flying displays static displays exhibitions traders and up to 50000 visitors on the second Sunday of June each year. The event provides an exciting opportunity for the public to engage with their RAF showcase the careers available in the Service and to promote the STEM agenda.

In organising and delivering the annual RAF Cosford Air Show IAW RA2335 the EO will without being limited to:

  • Directly line manage a team of up to seven permanent locally employed civilians.
  • Tactically command and control approximately 100 service personnel and civil servants who act as programme managers and project officers on a work associated basis.
  • Tactical command and control approximately 1300 service personnel and civil servants on Air Show duties in the immediate run up to the event and on the day of the Air Show.
  • Identify the need for additional specialist support personnel through 11 Gp A1 Ops Force and 2 Gp Reserves HQ.
  • Work with the Deputy EO to set a budget for the delivery of the Air Show.
  • Work with the HoE to appoint a suitably qualified Flying Display Director.
  • Work with the Air Ops Manager to organise a flying display and ground displays.
  • Organise the traffic management plan and display safety zone.
  • Organise an Air Show Emergency Plan and organise a pre-Air Show Crash Exercise.
