Job Summary:
The District Nurse is responsible for overseeing and implementing health services for all students and staff across the district. This role includes assessing and addressing student health needs managing chronic conditions responding to medical emergencies promoting health education and ensuring compliance with state and federal health regulations. The nurse serves as a key liaison between the school families and community health resources.
Health Services & Student Care:
- Provide direct nursing care to students and staff including first aid medication administration and emergency response.
- Assess and manage chronic health conditions (e.g. asthma diabetes seizures allergies) in collaboration with students parents and healthcare providers.
- Develop and implement individualized health plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs) for students with medical needs.
- Monitor immunization compliance and maintain up-to-date health records per state and district regulations.
- Conduct vision hearing and scoliosis screenings as required.
Emergency Response & Crisis Management:
- Respond to medical emergencies administer first aid and coordinate with emergency services as needed.
- Develop and implement district-wide emergency health protocols and procedures.
- Train staff on CPR first aid and emergency medical procedures.
Health Education & Promotion:
- Provide health-related education to students staff and parents on topics such as nutrition hygiene mental health and disease prevention.
- Support and promote wellness initiatives for both students and staff.
- Collaborate with counselors and administrators on student mental health concerns.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure district-wide compliance with state and federal health laws including HIPAA and FERPA.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Prepare and submit required state and district health reports.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Serve as a liaison between the district parents and healthcare providers.
- Work closely with administrators teachers and counselors to support student well-being.
Education & Certification:
- School nurselicense in the state of Texas.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
Experience:
- Previous experience in a school pediatric or community health setting preferred.
- Strong assessment critical thinking and communication skills.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Full-time position covering all district campuses (travel between schools may be required).
- Must be able to respond quickly to medical situations.
