The Policy Advisor Common Agricultural Policy and the Scottish Rural Development Programme Policy Replacement role is a critical part of the Agriculture and Rural Communities (Scotland) Act 2024 which came into force on 16 June 2025.

This exciting opportunity will offer you the chance to develop and deliver agricultural reform and legislative change and gain direct experience of the Scottish Parliamentary process. It is a crosscutting outward facing high profile post with direct engagement with Scottish Ministers regional and national stakeholders and UKG colleagues.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • To assist with policy development and legislation relating to new agricultural support and reform which will be introduced using the 2024 Act to implement our Vision for Agriculture.
  • To assist with producing the Rural Support Plan (RSP) including significant internal and external co-development and redrafting and anticipated annual updates as agricultural reform progresses.
  • To assist with producing the Code of Practice on Sustainable and Regenerative Agriculture including significant internal and external co-development user research and redrafting.
  • To assist with policy development in relation to the replacement for Less Favoured Areas Support Scheme (LFASS).
  • Provision of secretariat drafting submissions briefings/speeches for Ministers FMQs PQs MiCases FoIs and research specifications as required.
  • Support the policy development of the future agricultural support framework working with colleagues across the Agricultural Reform Programme.
