Student-at-Large: Policy Committee
ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
This is a volunteer position on a student governance committee from May 2026 to April 2027. While this is an unpaid role student committee members will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions and develop transferable skills. This position will be selected by the Council Administration Committee of Students Council.
Policy Committee works to develop and refine policy stances for the UASU on a wide range of issues based on research and stakeholder consultation. The committee makes recommendations to Students Council on Students Union political policies which guide the advocacy efforts of the UASUs executives and Student Representative Associations (SRAs). The committee also receives reports from the Executive Committee on its policy activities and evaluates their effectiveness. The Standing Orders for this committee can be found here.
EXPECTATIONS AND TIME COMMITMENT
This committee will meet approximately twice a month. The meeting schedule is subject to change based on the availability of committee members. Committee members are expected to attend as many meetings as possible and carefully review all meeting materials in advance so they can make informed decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be University of Alberta undergraduate students registered in at least one course for credit in the Fall and Winter semesters of the 2026/27 academic year. Experience in policy-making is an asset. This position is open to all faculties and all experience levels are welcome.

Applications should include a resume and expression of interest (500 words) listing past experience and interest in the position. Questions regarding the roles duties qualifications or time commitment can be directed to the Vice President (Academic) at Selected candidates will be contacted by the Council Administration Committee.
