Java/Kotlin Engineer

Hybrid; Brooklyn Park MN (2x a week)

Contract: 1 year

We are hiring a Backend Engineer to join a team focused on modernizing critical inventory systems and event-driven architecture. This role will work on a platform responsible for consuming and processing inventory events while helping migrate legacy technology to a more modern scalable environment.

The team is looking for an engineer who enjoys building reliable backend services working with streaming data and contributing to system modernization efforts. You will collaborate closely with other engineers to design and implement enhancements that improve performance scalability and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop backend services using Java and Kotlin

Build and maintain event-driven systems using Kafka

Work with PostgreSQL to manage and optimize data storage

Support modernization efforts as the team transitions from legacy systems to newer technologies

Collaborate with engineers and product teams to implement enhancements to inventory event processing

Contribute to system performance improvements reliability and scalability

Required Skills

Strong experience with Java and Kotlin development

Experience working with event-driven systems and Kafka

Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases

Familiarity with modern web technologies such as React

Experience working in collaborative engineering teams
