DESCRIPTION


THE AGENCY

Zone 7 Water Agencyis located in the Tri-Valley region of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. Itprovides water on a wholesale basis to the cities of Pleasanton LivermoreDublin and the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon and flood-protectionservices to all of eastern Alameda County. Zone 7 employs approximately 116full-time employees and operates on an annual budget of $80.3 million Agencys administrative offices are located in Livermore CA theeasternmost city of Alameda County which is bordered by Contra Costa County tothe north and San Joaquin County to the east. THE POSITION

Under general supervision performs heavy physical labor work required for the construction maintenance or repair of facilities and equipment found in a water distribution system water treatment facilities or flood control facilities; and performs related work as required.

Incumbents in this class can be located in either the Maintenance or Flood Maintenance section in the Agency and are primarily responsible for performing heavy manual labor related to maintenance construction or flood control activities. This class is distinguished from Plant Maintenance Laborer Zone 7 which is primarily responsible for performing mechanical maintenance and repair work on Zone 7 facilities. This class receives direct supervision from a Maintenance and Construction Supervisor.

IDEALCANDIDATE

In addition to the minimum qualifications the ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a proven track record of success in the following areas:

  • Experience operating a wide variety of hand power and shop tools used in the course of work.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (such as backhoe bobcat skip loader etc.).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish established work goals.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively to ensure tasks and assignments are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to complete work accurately while maintaining close attention to detail.
  • Proven safety record with the ability to identify safety issues and take corrective action.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and adhere to established procedures for completing work tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:The equivalent of two (2) years of experience in construction pipeline and/or vegetation maintenance work which has provided the required knowledge and skills.

License:Possession of a valid California Drivers license.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work in areas with potential exposure to hazardous materials in confined spaces with respiratory protection equipment with frequent exposure to traffic and machine noise and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Occasionally works in excavations with unsanitary conditions.
  • Requires sufficient physical strength and agility to perform heavy manual labor equipment operation inspection and maintenance tasks and to unload store and transfer supplies and equipment.

  • Pavement restoration procedures.
  • Vegetation management

Ability to:

  • Operate and utilize the proper equipment tools and select materials to maintain and repair the distribution system and its components or flood control channels.
  • Follow written and oral directions.
  • Complete work assignments independently.
  • Use safety equipment and observe safe work methods.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Perform general manual duties requiring mechanical aptitude & manual dexterity.
  • Prepare subgrade set final grade surface restoration and place concrete.
  • Perform manual duties requiring use of proper tools and methods for tree/shrub trimming.
  • Perform basic computer operation including ability to read plans and interpret records drawings and project tracking.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILLCONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

  1. A review of applicants application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
  2. A review of the supplemental questionnaire to determine the best qualified that will be weighted as qualifying only (pass/fail). Candidates who pass the best qualified exam component will move on to the final step in the examination process.
  3. An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates final examination score. The oral examination may be administered virtually and may contain situational exercises.
