About the role

The role of Assistant Financial Controller reports directly into the Financial Controller and has four direct reports. The role has oversight of group level financial accounting and reporting. The role is responsible for corporate level financial accounting and also works with finance teams to ensure accuracy and integrity in the financial accounts. It will also be responsible for external and internal audit preparation of statutory accounts regulatory and FBT compliance and the development of internal controls and procedures.

This is a permanent position based at St Leonards with hybrid opportunities.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Month end accounts including reviewing results conducting variance analysis and working with business partners to understand drivers or corrections
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements
  • Identify raise and provide insights and recommendations on financial accounting issues based on interpretation of accounting standards and other changes to reporting frameworks
  • Compliance with FBT regulations and lodgement of returns
  • Compliance with all relevant statutory obligations
  • Assist financial processes procedures policies and internal controls.
  • Responsible for ensuring the monthly completion of balance sheet reconciliations by the Finance Team in compliance with agreed format to a high quality in readiness for Management review and Auditors.
  • Assist the internal / external audit processes and liaise with auditors
  • Responsible for Aged Care Financial Reporting and Quarterly Financial Reporting processes and submission
  • Provide leadership and development of team.
  • 2IC to the Financial Controller
  • Assist with technical accounting advice
  • Responsible for the fixed assets register leases and banking reconciliations
  • Responsible for payroll clearing account reconciliations
  • Various project work (including new General Ledger project)
  • Process improvement projects to reduce manual work required (including use of AI)
  • Ad hoc tasks as required

About you

  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCares Christian Mission Motivation and Mission in Action.
  • At least 5 years demonstrated experience in a similar corporate role (not for Profit organisation experience is desirable)
  • CA qualified essential
  • Audit experience in a chartered firm essential
  • Demonstrated experience managing uplifting and supporting a team of skilled professionals
  • Ability to interpret and apply the relevant accounting standards and keep up to date with them
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within set timeframes
  • Excellent communication skills making the complex simple
  • Strong financial and commercial modelling and analysis skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong Excel skills essential
  • Strong Financial and Business Partnering skills
  • Exposure to Workday Adapting Planning is advantageous
  • Exposure to the Aged Care Sector advantageous
