Position Overview

The Associate Director (Software EngineeringTS China) is a critical leadership role responsible for delivering high-impact technology solutions that enable J&Js growth in China. This role is a unique blend of Technical Delivery Site Leadership and Strategic Business Partnership.

You will lead the design and delivery of technology solutions that leverage AI cloud platforms and China-specific digital ecosystems (WeChat Alibaba Tencent). As the Beijing Site Leader for Technology Services you will foster a high-performing local culture while ensuring global technology capabilities are effectively localized to meet Chinas unique regulatory and speed-to-market demands.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Delivery & Excellence

• Portfolio Delivery: Lead the end-to-end design development and implementation of technical workstreams and digital solutions within the designated portfolio ensuring alignment with global frameworks and quality standards.

• Engineering Leadership: Provide hands-on technical direction to full-stack engineering teams. Champion the Product Model and DevSecOps practices to improve throughput reliability and technical debt management.

• Architecture & Security: Partner with regional architects to ensure solutions are scalable secure and compliant with both J&J standards and Chinas regulatory requirements.

• Ecosystem Optimization: Manage and optimize the local partner ecosystem including App Dev RFP vendors and approved niche partners to improve delivery speed quality and value while ensuring adherence to J&Js high engineering and coding standards.

2. Site Leadership & Engagement

• Beijing Site Leadership: Serve as the on-site steward for the Technology Services organization in Beijing providing operational alignment and fostering an inclusive high-energy work culture.

• Strategic Conduit: Act as the primary engagement lead between sector business teams and TS. Orchestrate capabilities (Cloud Data SRE Digital) to accelerate China-specific business outcomes.

• Roadmap Alignment: Balance local agility with enterprise consistency ensuring the China roadmap integrates seamlessly with local regional and global strategies.

Professional Experience & Qualifications

Core Requirements

• Education: Bachelors degree required.

• Experience: 1015 years of relevant technology experience with a proven track record in leadership roles within multinational organizations encompassing both direct managerial experience and leadership by influence.

• Delivery Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of Product Model delivery DevSecOps and SRE practices. Experience with J&J SDLC is a significant advantage.

Technical & Strategic Competencies

• China Digital & Enterprise Ecosystem: Specialized knowledge of modern technology architectures within local ecosystems:

  • Mini-Program Development: Expert leadership in developing and scaling solutions within the WeChat Mini-program Alipay and ByteDance frameworks.

  • Enterprise Engagement: Extensive experience with the WeCom (WeChat Work) ecosystem including third-party app integration HCP engagement tools and CRM connectivity.

  • Healthcare Platforms: Familiarity with JD Health Meituan Health or DingXiangYuan.

  • Full Stack Engineering: Technical proficiency in governing development across modern stacks including React or Angular for front-end and Java or Python for back-end services.

  • Infrastructure & Cloud: Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS Azure Alibaba Cloud) and foundational technology services (Network Hosting Security).

  • System Integration: Proven ability to lead complex systems integration both SQL/NoSQL database designs and a strong familiarity with software design patterns (e.g. Creational Structural and Behavioral patterns).

  • Software Quality & Reliability: Commitment to ensuring superior quality through the definition of coding standards leadership in technical code reviews and the implementation of robust CI/CD automation pipelines (e.g. Git Jira Jenkins).

  • Executive Influence: Skilled in advising senior management on marketplace evolution and emerging technology applications.

  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to manage complex demands across multiple shared-service units.
