We are currently seeking to fill an intern position for the Research and Policy Unit in WFP China Office based in Beijing China.
WFP has a unique threefold presence in China which includes: a Partnership Office presence that develops public and private partnerships for increased resource mobilization; a Country Office presence that implements a Country Strategy Plan supporting Chinas High Quality Achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and a Centre of Excellence for Rural Transformation that facilitates impactful demand-drive South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
The Research and Policy Unit (RP Unit) of WFP China focuses on advancing research initiatives policy dialogues and South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) in areas related to food security agricultural economics and rural development. The unit requires a dedicated intern for research support for research thematic studies and coordination activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Support
Assist in drafting basic concepts outlines and simple proposals for policy engagement and events fora under guidance.
Help prepare concept notes briefings and talk points meeting minutes NFRs for review.
Support creation of summaries and basic visualizations for internal and external meetings.Business Coordination
Draft routine correspondence and meeting minutes related to policy engagement and events.
Facilitate collaboration with South-South Cooperation partners with basic tasks for policy engagement.General Assistance
Compile regular progress updates and share with team.
Facilitate the coordinate basic communication with internal units and external partners about policy engagement activities.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example Bachelors degree) from a recognized university and have completed at least two years of the programme; OR
Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example Master degree); OR
Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme);
Classes attendance in the last 12 months of enrolment in a recognized university.
Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French Spanish Arabic Chinese Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset.
TRAINING COMPONENTS
Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars as appropriate.
LEARNING ELEMENTS
At the end of the assignment the Intern should:
Basic business support skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management problem solving team building; and career readiness and fundamental research skills in SDGs domain as food security and poverty reduction.
Inter-personal skills: including communication and listening skills; multi-cultural awareness and cultural competency; and conflict and stress management.
Internship-related skills: including teamwork; civic responsibility; and engagement and active participation.
INTERNSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
WFP is not responsible for living expenses arrangements for accommodation VISA requests and related costs.
WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
WFP will recognize candidates educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
Sons daughters brothers or sisters of current WFP employees are not eligible to apply.
