The Senior Surveyor is responsible for managing and overseeing all surveying activities on the project site to ensure accurate setting out positioning and alignment of all construction works in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
The role involves establishing and maintaining survey control networks supervising survey teams verifying construction layouts and ensuring dimensional accuracy throughout the project lifecycle. The Senior Surveyor also provides technical guidance to the construction team and ensures all survey data supports quality assurance construction progress and as-built documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Surveying Planning and Control
- Establish and maintain primary and secondary survey control points and benchmarks across the project site.
- Carry out setting out of buildings foundations roads utilities and other structures based on approved drawings.
- Develop survey plans and coordinate surveying activities in line with the construction schedule.
- Verify horizontal and vertical alignments of construction works.
- Ensure construction works are executed within the approved tolerances and coordinates.
- Ensure all survey operations meet the required precision and accuracy standards.
Construction Setting Out
- Oversee and perform setting out of buildings foundations structural elements utilities roads and other infrastructure.
- Verify that construction works are positioned correctly in accordance with approved drawings and coordinates.
- Provide guidance to engineers and site teams on layout interpretation and positioning.
Topographical and Boundary Surveys
- Conduct detailed topographical surveys to support design site planning and construction activities.
- Verify site boundaries and ensure construction activities remain within approved limits.
- Provide survey data for design updates and site planning.
- Conduct detailed topographical surveys to support design and site planning.
As-Built Surveys
- Carry out as-built surveys to confirm completed works align with approved drawings.
- Record and document deviations from design where necessary.
- Provide accurate survey data for preparation of as-built drawings and project handover documentation.
Survey Data Management
- Maintain accurate records of survey data field measurements and site coordinates.
- Prepare survey reports calculations and documentation.
- Ensure proper storage and backup of survey data.
Equipment Management
- Operate and maintain survey equipment including:Total Stations GPS / GNSS systems Automatic and digital levels Laser levels and measuring devices.
- Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and maintained for accuracy.
Coordination with Project Teams
- Work closely with engineers construction supervisors and design teams to ensure correct interpretation of drawings.
- Support the QA/QC team in verification of structural alignment and levels.
- Assist the commercial team with quantity verification where survey measurements are required.
Quality and Safety Compliance
- Ensure all surveying activities comply with project quality standards.
- Follow site health and safety procedures during survey operations.
- Ensure safe handling and transportation of survey equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree or HND in Surveying Geomatics Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in construction surveying with at least 35 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience on large-scale infrastructure hospital or complex building projects.
- Registration or membership with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON)
- Membership in the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS)
- Advanced proficiency in Total Station GPS/GNSS surveying and digital leveling equipment.
- Strong knowledge of construction layout procedures and coordinate systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and surveying software applications.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings site plans and structural layouts.
