Wieland is hiring a Continuous Improvement Specialist (Welding). The Continuous Improvement Specialist (Welding) focuses on highly technical welding environments including WPS development fixturing design automation and robotic welding systems weld parameter optimization and process capability improvements. The position ensures standardized welding processes data integrity and structured decision-making systems are deployed and sustained throughout the facility while improving safety quality and productivity. This role is located in Verona VA and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement Specialist (Welding) Responsibilities:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within highly technical welding processes
- Identify and scope welding-focused improvement opportunities that drive measurable gains in safety weld quality throughput and cost reduction
- Apply Lean Manufacturing methodologies such as TPM Six Sigma 5S 3P Kaizen and Value Stream Mapping specifically within welding and fabrication environments
- Develop and implement standardized welding SOPs visual work instructions and process control documentation to ensure repeatability compliance and process stability.
- Track and report key welding performance metrics including First Pass Yield (FPY) defect rates arc-on time labor efficiency consumable usage.
- Track monitor and report on the results of each project to ensure execution of timeline and tasks.
- Develop and facilitate improved shop floor relationships that encourage increased shop floor participation in the overall improvement process to include round table discussions improvement teams individual impact and other approaches as appropriate.
- Support capital improvement initiatives related to welding equipment automation and process upgrades
- Assist Engineering Leadership in strategic planning efforts aligned with continuous improvement objectives.
Continuous Improvement Specialist (Welding) Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- Six Sigma Certification preferred.
- Extensive hands-on lean manufacturing and continuous improvement implementation and facilitation experience.
- 5 years of experience driving Continuous Improvement in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience creating and implementing SOPs.
- Strong team building and facilitation written verbal and interpersonal skills.
- High energy and passion for continuous improvement is required.
