Job Title: Middle School Girls Basketball Coach

Location: Ogden Community Schools Ogden IA

Position Summary

The Middle School Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing a positive skill-based basketball program for middle school student-athletes. The coach will introduce and strengthen fundamental basketball skills promote teamwork and sportsmanship and foster enthusiasm for the game. This position supports alignment with the districts 7ï½12 basketball program and prepares student-athletes for successful transition into the high school program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan organize and conduct regular practices focused on individual skill development team concepts and game fundamentals.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices games travel and all team-related activities.
• Teach and model sportsmanship effort teamwork and respect for teammates opponents officials and spectators.
• Provide a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation confidence and personal growth.
• Collaborate with high school coaching staff to ensure program continuity consistent terminology and aligned expectations.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes families school staff and administration.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
• Maintain and inventory equipment and uniforms as assigned.
• Follow all district policies and procedures.
• Comply with regulations established by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals rules and skill progression.
• Ability to teach and demonstrate fundamental skills appropriate for middle school student-athletes.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate mentor and positively engage adolescents.
  
  
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching team.

Qualifications

• Coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
• Previous experience working with middle school students preferred.
• Iowa coaching authorization required or willingness to obtain certification.
• Concussion training and required state certifications as mandated.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand walk demonstrate drills and actively participate in practices and games.
• Ability to lift and move athletic equipment.
• Ability to supervise students in gymnasium and competition environments.
  
  

Terms of Employment

• Salary and contract length established by the districts extracurricular salary schedule.
• Employment is contingent upon board approval and successful completion of required background checks.

FLSA Status:

Exempt.
