About the role

As our new Tax Assistant you will be joining a collaborative and approachable tax team of two. We value getting the job done well delivering accurate high-quality outputs to tight deadlines while genuinely supporting each other along the way. This is a brilliant entry role into in-house tax offering exposure to corporate tax VAT employment tax and international tax matters all within a supportive environment where your growth is actively invested in.

Well support you in working towards a professional qualification with full funding provided by Bauer. You dont need to arrive with all the answers; what matters most is a genuine interest in tax a careful eye for detail and a willingness to learn.

What youll be doing

Youll be working across a genuinely varied workload supporting the team on a wide range of tax matters. Day-to-day you can expect to:

Support UK corporation tax compliance and reporting including analysis of controlled foreign companies group relief capital allowances R&D tax credits and corporate interest restriction

Assist with corporation tax year-end work for Group reporting requirements

Help with quarterly VAT reviews and indirect tax compliance

Support on employment tax matters including PAYE Settlement Agreements and Short-Term Business Visitors

Assist with international tax matters such as withholding tax clearances Pillar 2 and related analysis

Contribute to tax governance processes including Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offence requirements

Prepare tax code reconciliations and supporting schedules

Knowledge and skills

Heres what will help you thrive in this role:

Essential

A genuine interest in developing across different areas of tax corporate VAT employment and international

Strong attention to detail and a diligent thorough approach to your work

Comfortable working with data in Microsoft Excel including reviewing reconciling and analysing

Able to manage a varied workload and juggle different deadlines

Clear concise written communication you can make complex tax issues understandable to non-tax colleagues

Proactive and collaborative you take initiative but youre also a great team player

Happy to ask questions when youre unsure and open to feedback and guidance

Able to build positive working relationships across the business

Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel Word Outlook PowerPoint)

Desirable (but not essential well help you get there)

Some basic accounting knowledge

Any previous exposure to tax even in an academic context

Familiarity with AlphaTax software
