Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual family and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.

Our main services are in Wellington Dubbo Western Sydney Penrith Nepean and Blue Mountains and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and people-focused Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Business Partner to play a pivotal role in embedding a strong and positive safety culture across WACHS.

This is a hands-on operational role where you will partner closely with leaders and teams across multiple sites to:

  • Enhance safety performance
  • Manage risk and compliance
  • Strengthen safety leadership capability
  • Champion continuous improvement
  • Ensure culturally safe WHS practices

You will provide practical solutions-focused advice across the employee lifecycle while ensuringcompliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) and associated regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation regulations and Codes of Practice
  • Lead hazard identification risk assessments and corrective actions
  • Oversee incident investigations including notifiable incidents
  • Analyse injury and incident trends and recommend preventative strategies
  • Partner with HR on injury management return-to-work plans and workers compensation
  • DeliverWHS training inductions toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Support WHS consultation processes including HSRs and WHS Committees
  • Prepare WHS reports for Executive Committees and Board
  • Contribute to audits and continuous improvement of the WHS Management System
  • Liaise with regulators insurers and external stakeholders

Selection Criteria

  • Diploma (minimum) or higher qualification in Workplace Health & Safety
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management practices
  • Experience in incident investigation and injury management
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and coaching skills
  • Ability to work across geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Understanding of cultural safety and Aboriginal community-controlled contexts
  • Current Working With Children Check
  • National Police Check
  • NSW Drivers Licence
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination (minimum two doses)
