Job Summary

Position Summary

The Basketball Program Director will serve as Varsity Head Coach and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the basketball program sponsored by the school for 5th -12th grades. The Program Director is a key collaborator in the implementation of the entire basketball program including participation in the growth of the schools athletic philosophy coordinating the program with those of other coaches and assisting the general evaluation of programs and coaches of other sports. The Program Director is responsible for promoting the highest level of sportsmanship by fully supporting and enforcing all the regulations of all the athletic associations of which Holy Cross is a member as well as the schools regulations.

The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader committed to Holy Cross Schools mission purpose and culture with an excellent ability to be a positive ambassador and advocate for the school. The Basketball Program Director must have exceptional character and will be a key brand ambassador for Holy Cross School in the community ensuring families community partners and other stakeholders view Holy Cross School as an outstanding Catholic school that prioritizes relationships and prepares our students for their future.
The Basketball Program Director and Varsity Head Coach will report to the Director of Athletics.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree from a college or university approved by a regional accrediting organization.
At least five (5) years coaching at the high school level or experience playing or coaching at the collegiate level.
Exceptional leadership managerial and organizational skills
Excellent writing and oral communication skills
Hold or be working toward a valid teaching certificate for the State of Louisiana
Must pass extensive background check.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Lead mentor and supervise coaching staff:
oMeet regularly with coaching staff assuring open lines of communication.
oProvide staff development to clarify appropriate LHSAA and District regulations to build a sense of community and to consult regarding appropriate internal policy and procedures.
oDefine and implement an ongoing process of evaluation of both individuals and components with the department.
oMake recommendations to the Athletic Director regarding the retention and hiring of assistant coaches and serve as an active participant in the selection and hiring of coaching staff.

Provide for the needs of individual student-athletes:
o Establish the eligibility of each student involved in athletics.
o Report all injuries sustained during practices and athletic contests to the Finance Office and facilitate individual insurance claims of student-athletes.
o Submit within twenty-four hours accident reports to the Athletic Director.
o Assure that no pressure by coaches is exerted on an individual student athlete to select one sport in preference to another and that choices rest entirely with the student and his parents.
o Define in consultation with all coaches policies procedures and programs written in the Holy Cross Athletic Handbook which ensure that good sportsmanship fair play and community spirit as reflected by the Code of Holy Cross Man are the prevailing priorities regarding student participation and behavior.

Coordinate the year around sport-specific athletic program:
o Assure compliance with all LHSAA regulations as well as District policies and regulations.
o Assist the athletic director in fulfilling the eligibility requirements by reviewing those requirements with his team submitting accurate lists of names and grade levels of their squad to the athletic director and observing training rules that fulfill requirements of those organizations.
o Assure compliance with Archdiocese of New Orleans Safe Environment requirements.
o Define in consultation with the coaching staff the policy for athletic awards order these awards and plan all athletic award ceremonies.
o Attend regular athletic team meetings as necessary.
o Keep the Athletic Director and Principal informed of pertinent issues and policies related to the LHSAA as well as the district.
o Supervise the order and discipline in the school during athletic events.
o Ensure that the student regulations regarding behavior and appearance are followed.
o Assure that all athletic facilities are appropriately cared for maintained and secured by coaches by the conclusion of each athletic event.

Support the public relations of the Athletic Director:
o Submit entry lists and seasonal information as requested.
o Cooperate with school publications.
o Cooperate with news media regarding basketball.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Expectation to work additional hours as needed including evenings and weekends to support all school and basketball program needs.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with qualifications and includes a comprehensive benefits package for all full-time employees.
