Duties and Responsibilities
* Contribute to germplasm conservation research and implementation of current and new strategies for
the micropropagation of rare and endangered native Hawaiian plants.
* Initiate and establish the micropropagation plant collections collect and input research data and
provide analytical assistance to the Micropropagation Laboratory Manager.
* Maintain the integrity of the in vitro plant germplasm inventory in the Micropropagation Laboratory
through routine monitoring sampling and sub-culturing.
* Assist the Micropropagation Laboratory Manager in the filing of reports to regulatory agencies.
* Ensures laboratory supplies and chemicals are accurately inventoried maintained and re-stocked or
ordered as necessary.
* Prepare plant growth nutrient media stock solutions and sterile lab supplies necessary to grow in
vitro cultures.
* Prepare plant materials for transfer from the Hawaiian Rare Plant Program to its partner
organizations.
* Assist in delivering program information and research results at outreach events such as conferences
classes meetings tours workshops plant sales and public and private events through presentations
talks demonstrations and written material.
Assists the Micropropagation Laboratory Manager to develop and update training materials lab
protocol materials and safety and operational guidelines.
* Photo-document plant samples when new taxa are accessioned provide pictures needed for
specific projects and document pertinent research processes and/or findings.
answering any questions concerning the program or redirect them to someone who will be able to
provide appropriate answers.
