RN Perinatal and Newborn Float Pool

OHSU Perinatal Newborn Float Pool RN support both Labor & Delivery and the Mother Baby Units to meet operational needs for both units and to provide additional flexibility in staffing for rapid census fluctuation.

Labor & delivery unit providing intrapartum antepartum and newborn care to low and at risk populations. Care is provided based on acuity patient type and is in line with the Association of Obstetric Womens Health and Neonatal Nurses Guidelines for patients care (AWHONN). Mother Baby unit providing postpartum newborn and antepartum care to low and at risk populations. Care is provided to mothers and their newborn infants and to antepartum patients who require periodic fetal monitoring on a typical hospital unit.

• Float to a variety of assigned units; sufficient time management flexibility and prioritization skills to float up to every 4 hours if necessary
• Required to keep up to date with departmental communications by e-mail and mailbox since there is no physical location for the home unit
• May be required to provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations off-unit to meet patient specific

• BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
• ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
• Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
• Internal ONA applicants: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred
• Current unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
• BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
• BLS must not expire during orientation
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
• Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP)

• ACLS
• Nights: minimum 1 year recent Labor & Delivery experience

• 5 years labor & Delivery or postpartum RN experience in a high-acuity care setting
• Maternal Newborn Inpatient Obstetric or other applicable specialty certification
• AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification
• Experience in a float pool

Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse

• External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
• Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
