Are you excited to work with women preparing for training and employment Women Building Futures is looking for a carpentry instructor to teach the carpentry workshop in our Journey to Trades program. This position is ideal for someone who is looking for occasional contract work and has a desire to share their knowledge of their trade with others. Instruction is typically full-time for 2 weeks 2-4 times per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies to promote efficient and effective learning
- Monitor student involvement and progress within the shop ensuring that students understand and adhere to policies and procedures.
- Manage classroom dynamics to ensure a safe and effective learning environment
- Build relationships and mentor students throughout the program.
- Participate in curriculum development and reviews
- Evaluate students throughout the learning process and complete formal evaluations.
- Document student attendance accurately and promptly
- Utilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvements
- Work with WBF staff to ensure tools equipment and materials for the workshops are available
- Enforce and encourage proper safe workplace procedures including tailgate meetings Hazard ID FLHAs etc.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Approachable comfortable with people
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Strong professional attitude and boundaries
- Alignment with WBFs values and culture
Education & Experience
- Carpentry Journeyperson
- Experience mentoring apprentices and understanding of the competencies necessary to succeed in the field
- A desire to teach and share knowledge of the Carpentry trade
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect sensitive information.
- Teaching experience is an asset
