Part-Time Academic Instructor (BIOL 297: Human Genetics)

The Department of Biology at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a part-time Academic Instructor to teach one lecture section of Biology 297 (Human Genetics) (3 credits) during the winter term of the 2026-2027 academic year. This course is intended to serve students in Bachelor of Science programs such as Human Nutrition Human Kinetics and Psychology and students in the Bachelor of Arts and Science in Health program who are seeking a biology elective course or who are completing biology minors. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

We seek candidates familiar with the range of topics taught in the course. These include natural genetic variation in populations molecular structure and function of genes and chromosomes and the origins and evolutionary maintenance of genetic diversity. Other topics include connecting genotype to phenotypesuch as gene expression regulatory interactions and dominance relationships classical Mendelian and nonâMendelian inheritance as well as genomeâscale biology and the genetic basis of cancer all in relation to humans. Qualified applicants will have an advanced degree in Biology and previous teaching experience. Preference will be given to individuals who have strong teaching and communication skills. The Department is also seeking candidates who are committed to contributing to the universitys priorities of equity diversity and inclusion.
