The Lead Pharmacy Material Handler oversees daily packaging staging and shipping operations to ensure accurate compliant and on-time medication distribution to contracted facility sites. This role serves as the operational lead within the shipping and distribution area coordinating workflow maintaining quality standards and supporting team performance.

The Lead ensures shipment accuracy regulatory compliance and service level adherence while acting as the primary point of escalation for distribution-related issues.

*This is a full-time on-site position with hours of 9am 6pm Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

1. Distribution Workflow Oversight

  • Coordinate daily shipping schedule based on site delivery timelines and production completion
  • Assign material handlers to packaging staging and carrier preparation tasks
  • Monitor outgoing shipment volume and adjust workflow to maintain on-time performance
  • Conduct end-of-day reconciliation of shipped vs. scheduled orders
  • Prioritize urgent or temperature-sensitive shipments

2. Packaging & Shipment Quality Control

  • Perform final review of packaging integrity and documentation prior to carrier release
  • Ensure proper labeling manifests and tracking documentation are included
  • Verify cold-chain packaging standards for temperature-controlled medications
  • Monitor controlled substance shipment procedures (as applicable)
  • Investigate and document shipment discrepancies or returns

3. Team Leadership & Support

  • Provide daily direction and hands-on guidance to Material Handlers
  • Support onboarding and training of new distribution staff
  • Reinforce productivity and accuracy expectations
  • Serve as first escalation point for workflow issues
  • Communicate staffing or operational concerns to management

4. Carrier & Logistics Coordination

  • Monitor tracking reports and follow up on delayed shipments
  • Maintain accurate shipment logs and documentation
  • Coordinate with fulfillment and inventory teams to resolve incomplete orders

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years experience in shipping warehouse or pharmacy distribution
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of regulated product handling
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency for shipping and tracking systems
  • Experience in pharmacy healthcare or institutional distribution
  • Experience handling temperature-sensitive medications
  • Familiarity with controlled substance shipping requirements
  • Experience in high-volume multi-site operations
  • Notify critical information to the next level of management that may have a negative impact on client and/or vendor relations or patient care
  • Willingness to complete departmental duties in other areas as needed.
  • Willingness to complete special projects as needed from management
  • Willingness to work assigned schedule and mandatory overtime in peak times
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies procedures and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facilitys criminal background check and drug screening
