Job Summary: RN - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

- Facility Information:
- New unit opening 2/17/2026 at 1130 Tree of Life Lane Cornelius NC.
- 33-bed facility; unit will open at 50% capacity.
- No trauma designation not a teaching hospital not a chest pain center not stroke accredited.
- Travelers home address must be 50 miles from facility.

- Unit Information:
- 12 beds in the PCU.
- Minimum 2 years PCU experience required.
- First-time travelers accepted only with >5 years PCU experience.

- Patient Population & Diagnoses:
- Adult medical PCU patients: CHF COPD established vents/trachs GI bleeds DKA sepsis CIWA dialysis diabetic patients with insulin drips etc.

- Patient Ratios:
- 1 nurse : 4 patients.

- Required Certifications:
- Active RN license BLS ACLS NIHSS.

- Required Skills:
- General nursing skills: IV starts wound care dressing changes wound vac/drains central line care NG tube insertion tube feeds PCA/kangaroo pumps cardiac rhythm interpretation.
- Must perform lab draws (no phlebotomy support).
- Experience with titrating Cardizem amiodarone nitro heparin insulin (Endotool).
- Willingness to learn vent management and Precedex drips if not already experienced.
- EPIC EMR experience required.

- Department Support:
- 3 CNAs (1 as HUC) free-floating charge nurse.
- No phlebotomy IV/VAT or wound care RN support.
- 24/7 RT and anesthesia; hospitalist (on call at night); intensivist (not at night).
- No telemetry technician; RNs monitor their own patients.

- Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC (required).
- IV Pumps: Alaris.
- Med Dispensing: Omnicell.

- Floating Requirements:
- Travelers float first within and below scope of practice including MedSurg.
- May float to other region facilities: Cabarrus University City Stanly Lake Norman Freestanding EDs Central Division hospitals.
- Paid for travel time if floating mid-shift.

- Orientation:
- NEO and 1-2 unit shifts based on comfort level.

- Scheduling:
- 12-hour shifts (0700-1900 or 1900-0700).
- 6-week self-schedule cycle with manager approval.
- Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6 weeks (may increase per department needs).
- 75% holiday coverage required.
- Up to 7 days RTO approved; more requires manager approval.

- Other:
- Uniform: Navy blue scrubs.
- Free parking.
